Description

Kisspeptin-10 (KP-10) is the minimally active C-terminal decapeptide fragment of endogenous kisspeptin, the protein encoded by the KISS1 gene. As a ligand of the GPR54 receptor (KISS1R), kisspeptin is considered in endocrinology to be a central upstream regulator of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis (HPG axis). Lumo Peptides offers Kisspeptin-10 exclusively as a research-grade lyophilisate (freeze-dried powder) for laboratory and preclinical research — not for human or animal use.

What is Kisspeptin-10?

Kisspeptin is formed in the body as a larger precursor protein that is subsequently cleaved into shorter, biologically active fragments. The shortest fragment that can still fully activate the receptor is a chain of ten amino acids: Kisspeptin-10. The sequence (Tyr-Asn-Trp-Asn-Ser-Phe-Gly-Leu-Arg-Phe-NH2) corresponds to amino acids 45–54 of the metastin molecule, which is why the compound is also referred to in the literature as “Metastin (45-54)” or simply “KP-10”.

In research models, Kisspeptin-10 binds to the KISS1R receptor (GPR54) on GnRH neurons in the hypothalamus. This receptor-ligand interaction is central to the study of the neuroendocrine control of the reproductive axis: kisspeptin signaling is considered one of the key links upstream of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH, a release-stimulating hormone). As a synthetic peptide, Kisspeptin-10 makes it possible to study this pathway in a controlled and reproducible manner in vitro and in preclinical models, without relying on the complete, less stable precursor protein.

Research areas

Kisspeptin-10 appears in the scientific literature as an aid to investigate various molecular and physiological questions. Examples of research directions in which the peptide plays a role:

  • Characterization of the KISS1R/GPR54 receptor and its binding and signal transduction behavior in cell models.
  • Research into the neuroendocrine regulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis in preclinical settings.
  • Study of the kisspeptin-GnRH signaling cascade and the subsequent release of gonadotropins in animal models.
  • Reproductive endocrinological research into puberty regulation and cyclical hormone patterns.
  • Studies on receptor desensitization and dose-response ratios in repeated peptide exposure.
  • Comparative study with related fragments (such as KP-54 and KP-13) to map structure-activity relationships.

Kisspeptin-10 compared with related compounds

Within research into the HPG axis, Kisspeptin-10 is often placed alongside other regulatory peptides that act at different levels of the same axis. Where kisspeptin stands at the top of the cascade, it works Gonadorelin 2mg — a synthetic GnRH — one step lower and targets the pituitary gland directly. Triptorelin 2 mg is a GnRH agonist that is specifically used in research to modulate the axis via long-term receptor occupancy, while HCG as a gonadotropin analogue acts even further downstream. For investigational setups with a nasal spray administration form, the same active substance is also available as Kisspeptin Nasal Spray KitTogether, these connections allow the propagation axis to be compared at multiple levels.

Shape, handling and storage

Kisspeptin-10 is supplied as lyophilisate: a freeze-dried powder of 10 mg per vial that keeps well when kept dry and refrigerated. The unopened powder should preferably be stored in the freezer, protected from light and moisture. For laboratory use, the lyophilisate is reconstituted with a suitable solution, after which the dissolved peptide is kept refrigerated (2–8 °C) and stored briefly to limit degradation. Always use sterile techniques and avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles, as these can compromise the integrity of the peptide chain.

Purity and lab results

Kisspeptin-10 is offered with a controlled purity of ≥ 99%, determined via HPLC. For research, a consistent, well-characterized raw material is essential: impurities or degradation products can interfere with receptor experiments and dose-response measurements. The current lab documentation for our peptides can be found bundled on our lab results page.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the designation “KP-10” mean?
KP-10 is the common abbreviation for Kisspeptin-10, the decapeptide (ten amino acids) that corresponds to the C-terminal fragment 45–54 of metastin. In the literature, the same molecule is also encountered as “Metastin (45-54)”.

Why is it supplied as lyophilized?
Freeze-dried powder is significantly more stable than a ready-to-use solution. In this form, the peptide remains intact longer during storage and transport; the end user only reconstitutes it just before the analysis.

How does Kisspeptin-10 compare to full kisspeptin (KP-54)?
KP-54 is a longer fragment of the same precursor protein. Kisspeptin-10 is the shortest fragment that can still fully activate the KISS1R receptor, making it a practical and highly reproducible model for the kisspeptin signaling pathway in research.

Where can I find the accompanying lab documentation?
All lab documentation in our assortment is bundled on the lab results page.

Is this product suitable for human use?
No. Kisspeptin-10 is intended exclusively for in vitro and preclinical laboratory research and is not intended for human or animal consumption.

Intended exclusively for laboratory and research purposes. Not for human or animal consumption, or for medical, diagnostic, therapeutic, or cosmetic use. The buyer is 18+ and confirms the research context. Not a medicine.
