Description
Gonadorelin is a synthetic decapeptide, a chemically biterminally modified peptide with a pyroglutamyl start and a C-terminal glycinamide. In scientific research, it is studied as a model compound for receptor-linked peptide chemistry and as a reference standard in analytical work. This compound is offered as a freeze-dried powder of 2 mg per vial, exclusively for laboratory and research purposes.
What is Gonadorelin?
Gonadorelin is the synthetic form of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH, also referred to as LHRH) and consists of ten amino acids in the sequence pGlu-His-Trp-Ser-Tyr-Gly-Leu-Arg-Pro-Gly-NH2The two ends are chemically unique. At the N-terminus, there is no free amine but a pyroglutamic acid: an intramolecularly cyclized glutamine in which the amino group is incorporated into a lactam ring. At the C-terminus, there is no free carboxylate but a glycinamide. Both ends are therefore electrically neutralized, meaning the net charge is determined entirely by the side chains, in practice primarily by the arginine at position 8 and the histidine at position 2. This charge neutralization simultaneously reduces the binding sites for amino- and carboxypeptidases.
In research models, Gonadorelin is used as a reference ligand for the GnRH receptor, a class A G-protein-coupled receptor. Because this peptide is the best-characterized ligand for that receptor, it serves as a reference point in binding studies using pituitary cell culture systems and membrane preparations when comparing modified analogs. Structural research focuses on the conformation in the binding groove: the glycine at position 6 allows for a tight bend. In vitro, the peptide is also a favored substrate for enzymological work, because degradation occurs selectively between glycine-6 and leucine-7 and between proline-9 and the glycinamide. Consequently, Gonadorelin is used as a model compound and reference substance within scientific research.
Research areas
In a laboratory context, Gonadorelin occurs in the following research areas, among others:
- Receptor research on the GnRH receptor as a class A G-protein-coupled receptor, with Gonadorelin as the reference ligand in binding assays.
- Enzymological research into selective peptide cleavage by neutral endopeptidases and post-proline-cleaving enzymes.
- Structure-activity relationship study on decapeptide analogs, in which positions 6 and 10 are systematically varied.
- Biophysical conformation analysis (CD spectroscopy, NMR, molecular modeling) of the curve around the glycine at position 6.
- Analytical method development and validation (reverse-phase HPLC, LC-MS) with Gonadorelin as the peptide reference standard.
- Stability study of tryptophan oxidation and cyclized peptide ends.
Each of these applications involves controlled laboratory or preclinical model research.
Gonadorelin in our research assortment
Gonadorelin falls under the category of freeze-dried investigational compounds in vial form within our product range. While Gonadorelin focuses on a G-protein-coupled receptor and the influence of terminal modifications, other components within the same product line have been specifically chosen to cover enzymatic or metal-coordinated targets. These compounds share the freeze-dried vial form but differ fundamentally in molecular class and investigated mechanism.

Shape, handling and storage
Gonadorelin is supplied as a white freeze-dried powder of 2 mg per vial, sealed under a rubber stopper with aluminium sealing. With this small quantity, the lyophilisate is often barely visible as a thin layer at the bottom, which is normal in the milligram range. In a laboratory setting, the material is further processed according to the applicable analytical protocol.
Store the closed vial in a cool, dark place, protected from light and moisture, preferably in the original packaging. The tryptophan at position 3 is photosensitive and oxidizable, which makes protection against light and oxygen particularly relevant for this peptide. Handle the compound with standard laboratory precautions: work in a clean environment, use appropriate personal protective equipment, and prevent cross-contamination. Keep the packaging out of reach of unauthorized persons.
Composition and lab results
The lyophilisate contains 2 mg Gonadorelin per vial with a controlled purity of ≥ 99% (HPLC). No fillers or stabilizers are added, so that oxidation products can be attributed purely to the sample itself.
You can find an overview of the available analytical documentation on our lab results page, where the reports are centrally collected.
Frequently Asked Questions
To which substance class does Gonadorelin belong?
A decapeptide and the synthetic counterpart of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH), with a cyclized N-terminus and an amidated C-terminus.
Why are the two ends chemically unique?
The pyroglutamic acid and the glycinamide contain no free amino group or free carboxylate. Both ends are therefore charge-neutral, which limits the binding sites for amino- and carboxypeptidases.
In what form is the connection supplied?
As a freeze-dried powder of 2 mg in a sealed vial, without added excipients.
How do I store the vial?
Refrigerated and dark, protected from light and moisture, preferably unopened in the original packaging.
