Ipamorelin is a pentapeptide with the sequence Aib-His-D-2-Nal-D-Phe-Lys-NH₂.

In research models, the three compounds act at different sites. IGF-1 LR3 is described in vitro as an agonist of the IGF-1 receptor, with a low affinity for binding proteins (IGFBPs), ensuring it remains largely freely available in cell culture. CJC-1295 without DAC binds to the GHRH receptor in cell models; Ipamorelin selectively targets the growth hormone secretagogue receptor (GHS-R1a) in vitro.
