Each unit consists of 10 mg of freeze-dried powder (lyophilisate), white to off-white in color, in a sealed glass vial with a butyl rubber septum and an aluminium shrink cap. The lyophilisate attracts moisture from the environment; this can lead to clumping and affect the analytical baseline. Therefore, a vial is only opened at the moment the material is processed in the laboratory.

Sealed vials are stored freeze-dried at 2–8 °C, in a dark and dry place, in the original packaging. Before opening, bring a refrigerated vial to ambient temperature to prevent condensation from forming on the powder, and keep the number of temperature changes as low as possible. The usual laboratory precautions apply: a clean work surface, gloves and eye protection, and recording of the batch number and opening date in the lab journal.
