Liothyronine is the synthetic equivalent of triiodothyronine (T3), the biologically active thyroid hormone. The molecule carries three iodine atoms on a diphenyl ether structure. Supplied as a tablet containing 25 mcg of active substance, 100 tablets per pack.
T3 binds directly to the nuclear thyroid hormone receptors TRα and TRβ, which, as transcription factors, regulate the expression of numerous genes. The substance is therefore a standard ligand in transcription and receptor research.
